Why isn’t everyone talking about this foundation?!!? I bought this product over a year ago but then completely forgot about it because I store it in a drawer separate from my other foundations (because it is rather large). I also forgot about it because I never see anyone talk about it!!

I went into Sephora and told the sales associate that I wanted a foundation that looked natural but provided great coverage and she recommended this foundation. She told me to apply it onto a foundation brush (not directly to my skin). After she applied it on me in Sephora, I met up with my family for dinner and both my mom and grandma commented on how flawless my skin looked. I immediately returned to Sephora and bought TWO of these (in the exact same color – I don’t know what I was thinking). Especially because these each retail for $62.

This foundation looks natural on your skin but provides great coverage. Your skin looks airbrushed. In the past I had purchased an entire airbrush makeup system that I LOVED but the nozzle got clogged up and I can’t use it anymore. This foundation is better than the airbrush makeup kit that I had. The color I purchased (202) is way too light for me but I have been still using it just because I love how it looks (I have been applying LOTS of bronzer so that I don’t have ghost face/tan neck syndrome).

I wish this product wasn’t so expensive. That is really it’s only downfall. Oh, and I guess the size – it is kind of difficult to store. However, if you haven’t tried this foundation I would highly recommend going into Sephora and asking them to apply it on you – the results are incredible.

A few months ago, I saw a lot of my fellow Instagrammers posting about free products they received from Influenster. I signed up and spent a bunch of time reviewing products, taking quizzes, etc. Supposedly, the more active you are on the site – the more of a chance you have to receive free products to review.

Months went by and I didn’t receive anything so I basically gave up on the website. Then, I randomly received an email with a quiz asking for my thoughts on color correcting concealers and asking for my mailing address. It didn’t say anything about a particular brand or product but it was pretty clear that the product I might be receiving would be a color correcting concealer. When I received my box in the mail and saw the YSL logo on top – I literally squealed with delight.

The product I received was the Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Neutralizer in green that retails for $38. I received a FULL SIZE version of this product!! I immediately went on to Sephora to read the reviews and they were all amazing (however, most of them mentioned that they received the product for free from Influenster so I wasn’t sure if that was skewing the results – it is hard to complain about a product when you receive it for free).

Also, I am assuming that I received the green color because in the quiz I answered that my major skin concern is redness. My skin has been acting up like crazy so I was really excited to try this product. I’ve never used any of the YSL concealers so I am assuming the packaging is the same. For those of you that haven’t used them either, they are pretty cool. It is almost like a pen with a “clicky” button at the bottom that you press to get the product to come out. The applicator is very similar to the MAC brightener that I own.

I would definitely recommend purchasing this product. It did a great job of correcting my redness and was super easy to blend out. The only other product that I have for color correcting is Bye Bye Redness from IT Cosmetics so I thought it might be helpful to compare the two.

Bye Bye Redness is VERY thick. Not only does it conceal any redness on your skin it provides coverage similar to a very full coverage foundation. It is also the color of foundation and can be worn alone. The YSL Neutralizer is very different. It is a thinner, more liquid consistency and is green. When you blend the product out it doesn’t remain green but I probably wouldn’t wear this on it’s own. However, I liked that it didn’t add any coverage and really just neutralized my skin and provided a great base for me to apply my foundation.

BOTTOM LINE: Sign up for Influenster! Just don’t get your hopes up that you will receive anything immediately. I have no idea how they choose who to send the products to, and I have no idea if I will receive any other free products. However, receiving this one YSL product was worth the time I spent signing up and reviewing products on their website. I would also highly recommend this product if you have redness in your skin that you would like to conceal. Plus the packaging is sleek and fancy looking and would be great for travel.

I was recently poking around the Sephora website and decided to look through Sephora brand products. For some reason, I never purchase any products from the Sephora brand. However, after I recently purchased and LOVED the Sephora Mud Mask (see blog post here) I decided I needed to give this brand a try.

I stumbled upon the Solid Brush Cleaner and was intrigued because I had never heard anyone talk about it but it got GREAT reviews (529 reviews, 5 stars!). I purchased the mini size (0.6 oz for $8).

UM this product is AMAZING. It is just as good, if not better than the Beauty Blender Solid Cleanser. However, the most amazing part is that it comes with a miniature pink rubber mat (just like the Sigma Brush Cleaning Mad) that fits in the lid. This is GENIUS. You literally put the mat in the lid and then you have the most compact brush cleaning set-up ever. I originally bought this to clean my brushes while on vacation but it is now my go-to brush cleaner. I will be repurchasing the full size (1 oz for $14) as soon as it comes back in stock.

Now, don’t get me wrong – the Sigma Brush Cleaning Mat is better in that it is larger and fits in your sink (which is super convenient). You can clean a bunch of brushes very very quickly with the Sigma mat. However, if you are looking for the same thing but just cheaper and smaller you need to purchase this Sephora product. The mat made cleaning my brushes super quick (although not as quick as the Sigma mat because I had to rinse it every couple of brushes since it is so small).

Between this product and the Sephora Mud Mask, which has become my holy grail mask, I am convinced that I need to buy more Sephora brand products. They are so reasonably priced and are usually dupes of the most popular/amazing products in the Sephora store.

Hello! I feel like the Itsy people have a way of reading my mind. Every time I am disappointed by a bag and about to cancel my subscription – the next bag is really great! Here are the items I received in my January 2016 Glam Bag:

Marsk Mineral Eyeshadow in Mudcake – I think this container is really cute! I am not much of a loose eyeshadow person but I am REALLY happy that they gave me such a wearable color. Sometimes I feel like Ipsy products are great but not in colors I would wear. This product is interesting – I swatched it on my hand and it looks super metallic and glittery, however, once you blend it in the glitter is less noticeable and it turns into a really gorgeous mauve-brown. You can definitely still see the pieces of glitter so I am curious to see how this will look on the eyelid and if there will be any fall out.

Hanalei Sugar Lip Scrub – Yay! This was the product I was most excited about! I had just gone in to a Lush store to get one of their lip scrubs but they were sold out. The only product I have to compare to this is the Elf Lip Exoliator (which I love). While the Elf Lip Exfoliator is very dry and gritty feeling – this product is the opposite (it is very oily with fewer “sugar” pieces in it). It felt really good on my lips but when I wiped it off my lips just hurt a tiny bit and didn’t feel super exfoliated. I would definitely recommend the Elf Lip Exfoliator over this one as I feel that it works better. However, I will continue to use this one and see if I have a better experience with it later.

The Balm Mr Write (Now) Eyeliner in Jac – I am always really excited when I see products by brands that I know and love in my Ipsy bags. I wish this eyeliner was in brown or black, as I know I would use those a lot, but the bronzey-gold shade is actually gorgeous. It will be really fun to play around with this color. I also love that it is a twist up eyeliner and doesn’t require a sharpener. This is a full size product and retails for $17! WIN!

Trestique Mini Concealer Crayon in Bisque – I was really excited to see this product.  I thought it would be great to keep in my purse for touch ups if I end up liking it. The color seems to be a pretty good match for me so I will definitely update y’all once I have tried it!

Pur-lisse 4-in-1 Eye Adore Serum – I need to start reviewing my Ipsy bags on the Ipsy website because I never end up using the skin care items that they send me. I think it’s because I have found a skin care routine that works really well for me and am not really interested in changing it up. I just applied this and I liked the fact that it absorbed very quickly into my skin.

What did y’all think of this month’s Ipsy Glam Bag?

Alright, so I am really horrible about applying moisturizer to my body. I think I apply moisturizer to my skin once every 3 months. Eek, it’s bad. So, once I heard about this Lush moisturizer that you apply in the shower and rinse off I knew I had to have it.

There is a Lush store in walking distance from my work (dangerous) so I ventured over there and picked up Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner. I noticed that all of the products were smaller in person than they appeared online. When they rung me up at the register I was shocked to see that my one little product cost over $40!!

I have been using this for a few weeks now and I am IN LOVE. This makes your skin feel so moisturized (if you have ever used coconut oil in the shower as a body conditioner, the result feels very similar to that). The body conditioner itself is so creamy and there is also a slight rosy smell that I love! I am trying to use this only once or twice a week to make it last a little longer but I will definitely be repurchasing!

What other Lush products should I try?!

Ok, as y’all know – I love sharing my favorite beauty products so I’m sorry if this post feels a little repetitive. However, 2015 was a year full of spending money on makeup. I’ve always loved makeup but in the past I was the type of person that owned one foundation at a time, one powder at a time, etc. Once I got into watching YouTube videos I started buying products like crazy. Then when I started my blog and Instagram page – I went even crazier. The one good thing about this is that I have been able to compare a TON of products and figure out which ones are my favorites.

I debated whether I should go through each category (primer, foundation, etc.) or just talk about the stand out products of the year. I decided to just talk about the stand out products of the year because I already have other posts about my favorite products (November FavoritesFavorite ProductsFavorite Products Pt. 2October Favorites). I hope you enjoy!

Estee Lauder Doublewear: The ironic thing about this being my favorite for 2015 is that I have been using this foundation for years. I purchased over 10 other foundations this year and couldn’t find a single one that I love as much. This foundation is holy grail status for me and will always be in my collection.

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Redness: Wow. This product is so good at covering up redness. I love the consistency too. It is super full coverage so a little goes a long way.

Laura Mercier Translucent Powder and Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder: I had never used a loose powder until this year. These powders are SO gorgeous.

Becca Cosmetics Under Eye Brightener: I didn’t think I had dark under eyes until I used this product. OMG my under eyes are SO bright whenever I use this, it makes me look wide awake.

Urban Decay Naked Concealer: I’ve talked about this over and over. This is a great product.

Benefit Hoola Bronzer: This is another one that is ironic that it is a favorite of mine for 2015. My friends and I used this product all throughout high school. During college, I switched to using Nars Laguna because I felt that I was now an adult and the Hoola packaging was much too young for me (and the Nars packaging was of course super sleek). I purchased a ton of bronzers this year (see my Battle of the Bronzers post here) and found that this bronzer was still my favorite. It’s great for contouring and bronzing up your face and is very natural looking while still being pigmented. The packaging is cute but I definitely wish it was in a compact and looked a little nicer.

Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow Palette (the highlighter): So, it is officially winter, I am officially at my palest and the bronzer is still too light for me. However, this highlighter is freaking amazing. I feel like this was the year of highlighters and I purchased and enjoyed a ton of highlighters. However, I realized within the past few weeks that I don’t actually like highlighters (LOL). They just look super un-natural on me. Same with using a highlight shade under your eyebrows – I hate it. However, this highlighter is different. It looks natural (as natural as a highlighter can) and adds a brightness to my face that I just love.

Clinique Cheek Pop in Cola Pop: When Clinique released their cheek pop blushes – I died. Are these not the cutest little things you have ever seen?! This shade is so up my alley. It is absolutely gorgeous and unlike any of the other blushes that I own.

MAC Warm Soul: I am super late to the game with this one. I heard a ton about this blush but when I looked at it – it just looked “blah”. Plus, I didn’t think I liked peachy blushes. After a ton of people recommended this to me on Instagram I went ahead and purchased it. I swatched it on my hand and was super disappointed. I put it on my cheeks and it was magic. This blush is absolutely gorgeous. The flush it gives you is both beautiful and natural looking. This blush should seriously be in EVERYONE’S collection.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed and Bobbi Brown Slopes: After falling in love with Warm Soul, it made me realize that maybe I didn’t need to buy the blushes that look super pink or super red. So, I purchased these two blushes that look a little boring in the pan. This type of blush has now become my go-to look. Each of these are gorgeous and natural looking on the cheeks with great staying powder.

MAC 24 Hour Extend Eye Base: This is hands down the best eye primer I have ever used in my life. My eyeshadow stays put ALL DAY LONG.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara: This mascara is a great price and provides both length and volume for me. I also really enjoy the wand.

Makeup Geek Eyeshadows: When these products first came out I thought everyone was over-hyping them since they were YouTubers and friends with Marlena (owner of Makeup Geek and fellow YouTuber). I hesitantly purchased a few and had to admit – these were pretty great. When she came out with her foiled shadows – holy #*@* I have never felt an eyeshadow so creamy. However, the only thing I will say is that I STILL love MAC eyeshadows. I hate how everyone always mentions Makeup Geek while saying “these are so much better than MAC, and cheaper). I still think MAC eyeshadows are amazing and they have some of my favorite single eyeshadow colors. Anyways, I digress…

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette and Too Faced Semi Sweet Palette: The packaging. The smell. The color choices. Amazing. I actually prefer the semi sweet palette over the original.

Becca Ombre Rouge Eyeshadow Palette: I love this palette so much. I actually won this palette from an Instagram giveaway and I am so happy that I did. It’s one of the few palettes I own that I use and love every shade in the palette. They go so well together and are completely my type of colors. I recommended this palette to my friend Lisa and she thought it wasn’t very pigmented. After she said that I realized it’s NOT that pigmented and I actually think that is one of the things I like about it (weird?). Or at least it is one of the reasons I wear it so often. I find that it is a great palette for a natural everyday eyeshadow look that I can wear to work. I’m still not great at doing my eyeshadow so some of the more pigmented shadows are a little scary because they are so easy to make a mistake with.

Pixi Mattelustre Lipstick in Honey Bare: See my blog post highlighting this great everyday lipstick here.

MAC Lipsticks: I had a ton of depotted MAC eyeshadows that I turned in for a couple of MAC lipsticks and it started an obsession. I just swatched my favorites to try to narrow it down to one or two but I couldn’t. Partially because they look super similar and partially because I love them all. My favorites from my collection are Taupe, Brave, Mehr, Faux and Creme in Your Coffee.

Too Faced Melted Lipstick in Melted Chihuahua: I love the formula, the applicator, and the color. This has been my go to lip product since I purchased it. Plus, the name is just weird and I love it.

Tom Ford Lipstick in So Vain: I love this lipstick. It is one of the most expensive products that I own and feels the most luxurious. I also really love the color. When I first bought this the texture was a little gritty (which I was not a fan of) but now that I have worn through the top layer it is a lot smoother.

Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray: Amazing. I can definitely tell a difference in the lasting power of my makeup when I use this spray.

Mac Fix Plus: I hesitated buying this product for the longest time because I didn’t know what it was used for. I heard a few people mention that they used it with their eyeshadows and that just didn’t appeal to me. However, I started using this after I have finished my makeup to make everything look less powdery and I LOVE it. I use super full coverage foundation so there are times that I end up getting a little cakey around my nose and this product definitely helps.

Eek this was really hard. There a ton of products that I was considering including but didn’t (Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer, the color Prim from the Tarte Holiday Blush Palette, Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, etc.). There are also a bunch of products I got for Christmas that I am super excited about but haven’t had enough time to use (IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed Powder and Tartelette in Bloom Palette). As always, I will keep y’all updated with any new favorites that come along in 2016.

What were your favorite makeup products of 2015?

I hesitated writing a skin-care blog post because I feel like skin-care is so personal – what works for me, may not work for anyone else. However, I have spent a lot of time and money trying out a lot of different products and I have been loving this combination of products. I have oily, acne-prone skin (so not fun).

Murad Clarifying Cleanser ($28 for 6.75 oz) – I use this product daily to wash my face. It is a fairly strong acne treatment and is good for controlling oil and blemishes. I love this entire anti-acne line by Murad. The only con is that it can dry out your skin.

Philosophy Purity Made Simple ($24 for 8 oz) – I’m not sure how, but this product is both gentle and effective. I use this when my skin is feeling a little too dried out to use my Murad cleanser. This cleanser will leave your skin feeling completely clean but not dried out at all. This would be great if you didn’t think your skin needed a super-maximum strength cleanser, or if you are like me and you use a bunch of drying anti-acne products as part of your skin-care routine. Another great cleanser that is gentle and effective is the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser.

Murad Pore Reform Skin Smoothing Polish ($30 for 3.5 oz) – This product is a great exfoliator and really helps with congested pores. I leave this in the shower and try to use it 2-3 times a week.

Mario Badescu Glycolic Acid Toner ($18 for 8 oz) – This is the first product I ever tried from the Mario Badescu line and I completely fell in love. When I use this on a regular basis, I can tell a noticeable difference in my acne scarring and skin discoloration. This bottle lasts forever and the price is right so I can’t imagine ever using a different toner.

Murad Acne Clearing Solution ($42 for 1.7 oz) – This product is expensive but it is effective. Sometimes when I get lazy I will just wash my face and not tone, treat, or moisturize. I can tell a HUGE difference when I DON’T use this product. I really like the feel of this product too, it is lightweight and creamy and doesn’t have any scent to it.

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion ($17 for 1 oz) – If you have acne and you do not own this product – you need to immediately purchase it. This is probably the MOST effective skincare product I have ever used. To apply: you do not shake the bottle, just dip your q-tip in the pink stuff in the bottom of the bottle and use it as a spot treatment. It will show up pink on your face so this product isn’t something you can wear out in public. I apply this at night and wake up to my problem spots being noticeably smaller. The only con is that it does sting sometimes. You can find this at Ulta in either a plastic bottle or a glass bottle – I would recommend buying the plastic bottle as that one is more travel friendly and once you’ve tried this product you will NEVER want to be without it!

Sephora Purifying & Mattifying Mud Mask ($19 for 2.03 oz) – This face mask is so good for oily skin and just as good, if not better, than the Glam Glow Mud Mask. I have an entire blog post dedicated to this mask so check it out here.

Murad Oil-Control Mattifier SPF 15 ($39.50 for 1.7 oz) – I LOVE this moisturizer for applying in the morning just prior to putting on makeup. I get super oily during the day so I feel like this moisturizer is slightly moisturizing while keeping me matte and providing a light SPF. I doubt I will ever stop using this product.

Mario Badescu Honey Moisturizer ($25 for 2 oz) – I bought this product after seeing Mallory Ervin (love her, she is so adorable) using it on YouTube. I needed a more moisturizing moisturizer to use at night. This product is really good – it’s moisturizing and doesn’t feel greasy. My only cons about this product are that it smells a little strange and I hate the bottle it comes in. Every now and then the product seems to get stuck and then a HUGE amount of product will come out when I squeeze the bottle and I end up wasting product. This is the one step in my skincare line that I have a feeling I will be trying out different products once I use this one up. If you have any recommendations for a good night-time moisturizer for oily skin – let me know!

Clinique All About Eyes Rich ($32 for 0.5 oz) – I currently don’t have any major issues with my under-eye area so I use my eye cream as more of a preventative measure. This eye cream is supposed to help with dark circles and puffiness. My favorite thing about this product is that it is lightweight and absorbs really quickly which is great when I am in a hurry in the morning.

If you have oily, acne prone skin – let me know your favorite skincare products to use! PS Stay tuned for my 2015 Best of Makeup!!
