I have to say – the October 2015 ipsy bag is probably my favorite that I have received to date. For those that don’t know, ipsy is a monthly subscription service that costs $10/month. Below are my first impressions on the items that I received in this month’s bag. What did you receive in your ipsy bag?

  • Royal & Langnickel Moda Standard Eyeshadow Shader Brush – I actually need more eyeshadow brushes so I was thrilled when I saw this. Not to mention it is pink! First impression is that it felt SUPER soft and I think I am going to love it.
  • MicaBeauty ipsy Exclusive Cream Eyeshadow in Bronze – I think that this color is going to be perfect for Fall! I never really use cream eyeshadows so I am intrigued. I have used this once already and it was a little difficult to get product on my eyelid, but once on there I was able to build it up and I really enjoyed the color.
  • Dr. Brandt Skincare Microdermabrasion – I actually own and love the full size version of this product so I was SUPER excited to see this in my bag. This is a great exfoliator for your skin.
  • The Balm Cosmetics Meet Matt(e) Hughes Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Committed – I love the Balm so I was pumped to see ANY Balm product in my bag. However, liquid lipsticks are all the rage right now so I was SUPER excited to see this product in here and the color (a pinky nude) looks like one that would look great on anyone. I immediately swatched it on my lips and absolutely loved it.
  • Delectable Coconut & Cream Ultra Nourishing Hand Cream – I just ran out of my other hand cream so I was really excited to see this product. I love Coconut and the packaging looks cute so I was very excited to smell this product. Ew. It smells disgusting – it smells more like chemicals than coconut. Regardless, the product seemed to work well on my hands.

Ok, I know that I shouldn’t even have a Wish List for the Sephora VIB Rouge Sale since I just bought a bunch of stuff at the Sephora Friends and Family Sale… but I do! Some of these are items I just discovered while perusing Sephora.com but most are items I have been wanting for a while but really could not justify buying because I don’t need them AT ALL. I am hoping to narrow down this list and only buy a few things. Let me know what is on yall’s shopping list!

Bare Minerals BareSkin Complete Coverage Serum Concealer – I almost purchased this during the Sephora Friends and Family Sale but I swapped it out for my trusty Urban Decay Naked Concealer. I’ve started to hear really good things about this on YouTube and I feel like it’s going to be the next super popular concealer. I’ve heard that it is comparable to the Urban Decay concealer but less expensive. I REALLY REALLY don’t need another concealer but I want to try this one very badly!

Estee Lauder Double Wear Light Stay-in-Place Foundation – The Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation is by far my favorite foundation. I always forget that there is a lighter version because I never hear anyone talk about it. I’m curious to try it – let me know if you have used it and how it compares to the full coverage Double Wear.

Benefit Hello Flawless SPF 15 Powder Foundation – I absolutely love Benefit packaging! I love Alexandrea Garza on YouTube and she mentioned that she wore this as a powder on her wedding day. I haven’t purchased it yet because it’s actually a powder foundation and I’m not sure how that would look over my already full-coverage foundations. I’m tempted to try this and use it as a touch up powder during the day or a light foundation for natural makeup days.

Hourglass Ambient Bronzer – I don’t own a single Hourglass powder product (blush, bronzer, highlighter, etc.) This is crazy because these products are so popular! I have a TON of blushes so I am more drawn towards the bronzers. I haven’t purchased these yet because they are so pricey and I have a lot of bronzers that I love.

Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder in Golden Light – Someone recommended this to me on Instagram a while back. Then, I saw that my good friend Lisa (@lisajmakeup) recently purchased this as her “winter bronzer”. I am really interested in trying this but am wondering how well it will show up on my medium skin. I do get much lighter in the winter months so I am tempted to try this one now.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Matte Waterproof Bronzer in Park Avenue Princess – This bronzer first caught my eye because of it’s super cute name “Park Avenue Princess”.  I’ve heard really good things about this bronzer and it gets great reviews on Sephora’s website. I don’t need another bronzer but I hate to think that there is a great bronzer out there that I haven’t yet tried!

Tarte Colored Clay Bronzer Blush in Park Avenue Princess – I saw this on @nelly_oooo ‘s Instagram page and thought it was incredibly beautiful. I’m not exactly sure how I would use it since it is a bronzer and a blush but I am intrigued. Plus, it would make for gorgeous Instagram photos!

Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner – I have this eyeliner in Lion Fish and I LOVE it. I’m running low on that one so I either want to buy another one in Lion Fish or try another one of the brown colors. Damsel might be nice because it is described as a “blackish brown”. If any of y’all have tried any of the brown shades (Deep Burgundy, Damsel, Spice, Espresso) let me know what you think.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara – best mascara ever.

Tarte LipSurgence Matte Lip Tint in Bare– This is another product that I have been wanting for forever. This is the type of lip product that I love so I’m not sure why I haven’t gone ahead and purchase this yet. I think this color would be great for the Fall and Winter time.

Buxom Full-On Lip Polish in Dolly – I know the popular thing right now is a matte lip but I actually love more of a glossy finish. I have a Buxom Lipgloss (in White Russian) and I am obsessed with the formula! I’ve been wanting to get another one that is darker and this color looks perfect to me!

Well-Kept Screen Cleansing Towelettes – I am horrible about not cleaning my phone screen and I KNOW that it is causing me to break out. My laptop screen could probably use a cleaning as well. Plus these are only $6 and the packaging is adorable. I especially like the blush/floral one.

I would love to hear what is on yall’s wish list or if you have tried any of these products!

I ordered the Morphe 35O Palette but it took so long to ship that I got antsy and ordered an additional palette – the 35T. I love wearing purple/taupes/browns so this palette was actually the one that I was most drawn to. I bought the 35O palette first because of all the hype around it! I have SOO many matte shades and transition shades but my collection is lacking in shimmery lid shades. I think that is why I was so drawn to this palette – there appeared to be so many beautiful shimmer lid shades.

I have to say, I was really nervous about if this product was going to be worth all the hype it has been getting on YouTube and Instagram. Not to mention that it is so inexpensive that I figured there was no way it would actually be good quality (35 shadows for $22.99 + $7.99 shipping). When I swatched these on my arm I could not believe how pigmented MOST of the shadows were. I have to admit that a few of the matte shadows seemed chalky and not very pigmented.

I’ve read a few reviews online that said that Morphe eye shadows irritate their eyes. I hope this isn’t the case and I will definitely update you once I have used this palette for a little while. The only other negative so far is the packaging – it is very cheap feeling. I’m curious if I could depot these and put my favorites in a Z Palette. Has anyone tried this?

Anyways, let’s get to the reason that most of you are probably reading this – SWATCHES!

Overall, I am SUPER impressed with this palette and I would definitely recommend getting it! There are a ton of coupon codes out there so make sure you find one and use one if you decide to buy something from Morphe.

Hi y’all! My friend Lisa was able to hook me up with a 20% off code for the Sephora “Friends and Family Sale”! I was able to purchase a lot of the products I have been wanting (or back-ups of the ones I already love).

Nars Eyeshadow Duo in Isolde ($35): This is the first Nars eyeshadow product that I have ever purchased. I saw this eyeshadow duo in one of Kathleen Light’s videos and then saw it again all over Instagram. The colors look so pretty and I think that it will be great for travel too.

Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow in Camel ($24): I have wanted this eyeshadow for sooo long. I think it will be the perfect crease color for my skin-tone. I have held off on buying this because I do NOT need anymore brown eyeshadows but this one is different right? 🙂 and it was 20% off….

Limited Edition Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray Duo ($39): If you love this setting spray as much as me, go online and order this duo! These are typically $30 each, but you can get 2 full-size products for $39! This is the first setting spray that I ever used and I was shocked at how well it made my makeup last. I have oily skin and I actually like this one better than the Urban Decay Deslick Setting Spray.

Anastasia Brow Wiz in Soft Brown ($21): The only thing I don’t love about this eyebrow pencil is that you can never tell how much you have left! I have two that MUST be about to run out at any minute, so I went ahead and ordered a back-up while it was on sale! I’ve found a dupe for this product (the NYX brow pencil) but I still like this one the best.

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard (Travel Size) ($12): How adorable is this?! I don’t need another concealer but I wanted to try this concealer in the shade Custard because I think it’ll work well for under my eyes. I justified buying this because it will be good for travel and it was “cheap”. However, looking at the pricing now, it’s not a great deal. For $12 you get 0.05 oz of product, or for $29 you get 0.22 oz of product. It’s so cute and little though that I don’t mind.

Urban Decay Naked Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer in Medium Light Neutral ($28) – I am so obsessed with this concealer that I am buying a back-up in case I run out anytime soon! If you’d like more information on why I love this product, check out my earlier blog post “My Favorite Makeup Products (Part 1)”.

Clinique All About Eyes Rich Eye Cream ($32) – I love this eye cream. I recently switched to another brand that is a lot thicker and takes forever to absorb into the skin. Once I use up that product I am going to go back to this eye cream At this point in my life, I don’t have too many issues with my under eye area so I am using it more as a preventative measure.

Did y’all purchase anything at the Friends and Family Sale? I heard from JenLuv’sReviews that the VIB Rouge Sale is going to start 11/1 – what will y’all be picking up? One thing on my list that I didn’t purchase was the new Bare Minerals BareSkin Concealer. I had it in my cart but then swapped it out for a backup of my Urban Decay Concealer that I know I love. I might have to pick one up at the VIB Sale though….. Stay tuned for my Wish List for the VIB Rouge Sale (Thanks @verg1229 for the great idea for my next blog post!)

Let me start by saying I love Jaclyn Hill. Once I saw this Fall Favorites tag I was dying to participate, but couldn’t figure out of a way to post my responses on Instagram. Now that I have a blog – I obviously had to do this as one of my first blog posts.

FAVORITE CANDLE: Bath and Body Works Marshmallow Fireside – this candle is DELICIOUS. The Bath and Body Works description says “Celebrate the season with a warm blend of toasted marshmallows, smoldering woods and creamy vanilla reminiscent of a cozy evening ’round the bonfire”. My husband and I don’t normally agree on things like this but once we both smelled this candle we went out and bought 3 back-ups. It has been Fall for less than a month and we’ve already gone through 2 of these candles.

FAVORITE LIP COLOR: MAC Cosmetics Lipstick in Creme in Your Coffee – this is a pinkish/brown color and a Cremesheen finish. This is one of my favorite MAC finishes because it is creamy and not so matte and drying. The color is absolutely perfect for Fall.

FAVORITE DRINK: Black Coffee from my Keurig – ok, I am super boring. I like black coffee year-round and typically make it at home with my Keurig. I probably go to Starbucks 2 times a year!! It’s not that I don’t like it, but I’d prefer to save my money to purchase more important things (like hundreds of makeup products that I don’t need).

Urban Decay Afterglow 8 Hour Powder Blush in Rapture – mauvey purple color

Giorgio Armani Cheek Fabric in 200 Androgino – super pigmented, burnt orange/reddish color

Clinique Cheek Pop in Cola Pop – the package is small and adorable, the color is a berry red

Bobbi Brown Blush in Slopes – I wear this blush year-round. It is the least pigmented of the group but I don’t mind building up the color. The color is very neutral and gives you natural looking flushed cheeks.

FAVORITE CLOTHING ITEM: Oversized sweatshirts. Let’s be honest, I live in Texas so “Fall” is actually 90 degree weather. You look ridiculous if you wear boots, scarfs, jackets, or other typical Fall clothing. However, sometimes my husband and I will crank down the AC and in that case, I love wearing super comfy oversized sweatshirts. This particular one is from Nordstrom.

FAVORITE FALL MOVIE: Hocus Pocus #basic

FAVORITE FALL TV SHOW: Scandal. I am so in love with this show. I even named our dog Mellie after my favorite character on the show. If you are not watching this show – you should start!

FAVORITE THANKSGIVING FOOD: Sausage Swirls. My sister’s mother-in-law made this once for Thanksgiving and it has been a constant in all of our holiday meals since then. It’s going to sound nasty but it is breakfast sausage, cream cheese, and a biscuit-type bread swirled together. De-lish.

FullSizeRender-16  FullSizeRender-17

FAVORITE HALLOWEEN COSTUME: None. Again, I’d rather save my money than spend a ton of money on an outfit I am going to wear one night. Also, my husband’s birthday is 11/1, so we are typically staying with his family during Halloween. My sister and her friend’s go all out for Halloween so I live vicariously through them (God, I sound old). The above pictures are of my sister and I when we were younger. Aren’t we adorable?

I hope you enjoyed this blog post! What are some of your Fall Favorites?

There have been so many amazing products that have come out for the Holidays 2015 collections. I am very proud of myself – I have showed restraint (so far) and only purchased one item: the Tarte Bling it On Amazonian Clay Blush Palette. It is Limited Edition and costs $44 for 5 FULL-SIZE blushes (a $110 value). This was an easy decision for me: I’ve heard amazing things about Tarte blushes, and I only own one of them (Blushing Bride). So, buying this palette was a quick and economical way to try these blushes out and grow my collection.

Let’s start with the packaging. The box it comes in is so cute that I haven’t yet thrown it away! I love the way the actual palette looks, but it has huge black sequin type things that keep falling off. Not particularly functional. As a result, this palette would not be very travel friendly and would be better to be displayed on your vanity.

BEAMING: Peachy pink shade with some sparkle to it. This didn’t swatch well on my hand, and I didn’t like the glitter in the pan so I was pleasantly surprised when this actually looked great on my cheeks. Very pretty color and not glittery at all (although it is definitely the least pigmented of the group).

SMASHING: Warm pink color, a lot of fall out in the pan but does not apply powdery to the cheek.

PRIM: I LOVE THIS BLUSH. Rosy brown color that looks very natural on the cheeks. As I get older, I am leaning more towards these colors and away from the pinker shades.

DOLLFACE: This color scared me in the pan. This is a bright pink with cool undertones. This is the only permanent shade in this blush palette and it looked very pretty on my skin.

FETCHING: This rosy plum shade is my second favorite of the group.

  • The price
  • Long wearing
  • Very pigmented
  • All shades are beautiful and easy to wear
  • Packaging is compact and beautiful
  • Quality is just as good as my regular Tarte blush

  • Glitter falls off packaging
  • Not a huge variation in shades

Bottom Line: I would pay $44 just to have the shade Prim, I love it that much!! The rest of the colors are right up my alley so I would give this 2 thumbs up and definitely recommend that you go out and buy it before it’s gone!!

Welcome to my blog!! I decided to begin my blog with a post about my holy grail makeup products. Some of these are new discoveries, some of these are items I have been using for years and years. Please leave me comments with your favorite makeup products. I hope you enjoy!

PRIMER: Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer ($52 for 1 oz) – ok let’s be real – this product is pricey. As a result, I have purchased and tried MANY other primers, desperately hoping to find something I like as much as this. So far, there haven’t been any that compare. This primer is so silky and it makes my skin so smooth and “ready” for makeup. When I put my foundation on it applies like a dream! The consistency of this primer is very thin and it is white when it comes out of the container. To be honest, it feels a little oily and slick on my skin once first applied so I was really nervous about using this product because I have very oily skin. I was surprised that this primer is one of the best primers I have tried for keeping my skin matte all day.

FOUNDATION: Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup ($38 for 1 oz) – this foundation is one of the first makeup products I ever purchased. Sometimes I get makeup ADD and buy other foundations to try out but I ALWAYS come back to this foundation. I have very oily skin and I like my foundation to be full coverage with a matte or satin finish. This foundation is very full coverage and has a matte finish. It is incredibly long wearing and I am always pleased at how it looks on my face at the end of the day. I’ve heard some people say they think this foundation is cakey, but I think it blends out very nicely. If I ever go overboard, I spray some MAC Fix Plus on my face (especially around my nose, where my foundations tend to build up) and it helps all of my foundations not look so cakey. I plan on always having at least one of these in my collection! Tip: Since this foundation does not come with a pump (BOO!), you can buy the MAC Foundation Pump for $10 and it fits perfectly once you trim the end a little.

DRUGSTORE FOUNDATION: L’oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation ($12.99 for 1 oz) – I recently discovered this product and could not believe how good it was. In the past, I have been somewhat of a makeup snob and have stayed away from drugstore makeup. Other than the Estee Lauder Double Wear, I would choose this foundation over all of my other high-end foundations – it is truly amazing. The finish is demi-matte, which to me just means that it is a matte finish that isn’t super powdery or cakey. This foundation is super long wearing and keeps my skin super matte. This is the foundation that I wear everyday to work so that I don’t have to worry about being an oily mess at the end of a long day.

CONCEALER: Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer ($28 for 0.16 oz) – Had you asked me my favorite concealer a few months ago I would have sworn by the MAC Pro Longwear Concealer. However, since I purchased this concealer I haven’t ONCE reached for my MAC concealer. This product is super light-weight feeling but with full coverage (say what???). I know, it’s hard to explain but you are just going to have to trust me on this one. It is so creamy and easy to blend out. I also love the doe foot applicator. I have sworn to myself that I will no longer purchase concealers that don’t have this type of applicator (I’m looking at you MAC). I really like the demi-matte finish, and this is the concealer I wear everyday to work because it does not crease and it looks very natural while covering everything I need covered.

POWDER: Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder ($37 for 1 oz) – I used to absolutely HATE loose powders. I didn’t understand why anyone would choose a loose powder over a pressed powder. They are so freaking messy and I always had such a hard time controlling the amount of product I was using. However, I recently saw someone on YouTube say that she used a damp beauty blender to apply loose powder to set her concealer. I tried this method to set my concealer as well as my T-zone and I am now hooked. This product keeps my concealer from creasing and makes my skin have a flawless, airbrushed finish – while also making my foundation last longer throughout the day.

IMG_6412 IMG_6415

BRONZER: Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Matte Bronzer ($28 for .28 oz) – This product has sentimental value for me. My two best friends (Hi Lauren and Bianca!) and I were OBSESSED with this bronzer in high school. We would literally go into the bathroom between EVERY class and reapply. At the time, we hadn’t heard of contouring or “warming up the face” so we basically applied this bronzer all over our face multiple times a day. Yes, we were those girls. To this day, i haven’t found a bronzer that I like better. I love the color (very natural and not orange at all) as well as the fact that it is matte. As a result, I am able to use this product for both contouring or just warming up my face. The packaging is cute but I do wish it came in something more sleek and compact.

FullSizeRender-12  FullSizeRender-13

BLUSH: MAC Cosmetics Mineralize Blush in Warm Soul ($27 for .12 oz) – Ok, blushes are my absolutele favorite makeup product to buy and wear. This was impossible for me to narrow down, so I decided to pick a blush that I recently discovered that is universally flattering. I can’t imagine anyone NOT loving this blush (even those of y’all that do not like to wear blush). MAC describes this shade as “mid tone beige with gold pearl”. As someone who loves very pink and red blushes – this shade doesn’t sound that appealing to me. When I saw the color and swatched it on my hand I was super underwhelmed. However, when I applied this to my face – it was magic. It is not super pigmented so I definitely had to build up the coverage, but the end result is a gorgeous, natural-looking, flushed face. It is everything a blush should be – it brightened up my face and made me look more alive, without looking like a clown.

Thank you for reading my first ever blog post! I would love to hear any feedback that you have or any recommendations for future blog posts. Stay tuned for Part 2 of My Favorite Makeup Products.
